It’s been over a month since our vacation to Jekyll Island, Ga. but the memories are still lingering in my mind. I could live on that island very easily. It’s laid back, teeming with wildlife and the locals are pleasant, down-to-earth people. Yes one could imagine getting away from it all in a place like that. As the sweltering sun beams down upon us here in the south, my mind takes me back to the shores of Jekyll and if I put my hands over my ears, I can almost hear the ocean bellowing me back.

The little 3 legged deer in the back is a frequent visitor around the golf courses of Jekyll Island. I forget what the locals have named her but her story is a sad one. She was almost lunch for an alligator and left with a back leg that dangled for awhile until it dropped off and left her with nothing below the knee joint. But she’s continued to thrive in her environment and even gave birth after that to a single fawn. She’s a trooper!

Driftwood Beach….one of the many aspects of Jekyll Island that soothes the soul. Even the birds seemed to be in their own little world here as they flew in one by one and lined the beach looking out towards the ocean.

On the river-side of the island sits Glory Beach. It’s not ideal for swimming like most parts of the island but it is a perfect place to “get away” and just BE. It also has a history. The Civil War movie “Glory” was filmed here in the mid 80’s and in order for the movie crew to access the beach with equipment, they needed to build a boardwalk. The boardwalk passed through a variety of vegetation and natural habitats and was the only thing left behind by the crew.

Little Cumberland Island sits off in the distance here. It’s home to only a handful of people and only accessible by boat. It’s also home a quaint little lighthouse built in the 1800’s. See more information here.

Today has been like any other day lately..hot and very humid. We did have a chance of storms last night but in rolled a little thunder and lightning and the show was over before any rain hit the ground. Tonight looked like we were going to get more of the same, a little thunder in the distance and some lightning flashing across the sky. Once again no rain well, but what appeared in the sky was just breathtaking.

I had to get a better look..

And maybe a little bit closer still…

The backyard was just covered in dragonflies tonight too. You can see a few of them on the left side of the picture above. They almost look like birds in the distance.

On the way back in I noticed how bright the moon was and took one parting shot before heading back in..away from the mosquitoes that sounded like small airplanes around my head!

Is it just me of is anyone else seeing more butterflies this yr than in years past? I can probably count the butterflies I saw last yr on my fingers and toes but this yr, they’re everywhere. I’m not complaining though!

What butterfly visits your yard more frequently than any other? For me it would have to be this one. The yard is filled with them during midday and they’re a pleasure to see sitting atop the Black-Eyed Susans.

Ok so it's been awhile since I've been a blogger here. Times are a changing. Now that Summer is here, I'll be blogging more often.
Now...need a summer movie that will make you laugh?? Go see Disney's "Cars". It's definetly a summer movie for kids and adults alike.

2006 is here and with it, new things to happen...places to go, people to see etc. lol

It's been awhile since I posted here. Sometimes life gets in the way of fun huh?

The beginning of August brought school and work back and I've been a busy mama trying to get back in the routine again. Ok it was easy for me..harder for my 14 yr old daughter who thinks the world revolves around her. ha!
But we're making it and the weather has gotten to be unbearable now with the 108 degree heat index's. Can we say READY FOR FALL???
Bring forth the scarecrows and hay bales..I'm ready for October! lol

August did leave us some adorable lil baby Mockingbirds though. I'm surprised the cat has left the mother alone with the eggs long enough for them to hatch!

Ok so we decided to take a little trip to Lake Wappapello in Missouri yesterday, due to the fact that I feel the need to take my family on little excursions every now and then. Ok so sometimes I have to drag them..they'll thank me later.
At least they usually do!
This time we ran into trouble..the cell phone was stolen. Ok so dear hubby left it in the men's bathroom unsupervised for 45 minutes. It's still stolen!
Anyone want to donate a phone??

We still had a little fun before the phone incident and despite the bad weather looming over us.
